Agile•1 Identifies Craft Labor Groups Facing Critical Occupational Shortages

AccerlationATS

TORRANCE, Calif., September 16, 2009 — Latest research from Agile•1, a leading provider of total workforce solutions, projects labor shortages for craft work over the next decade.

The findings from Agile•1 indicate that more than 38 percent of craft labor workers are over the age of 45 and almost 14 percent are 55 or older. These estimates place about 1.66 million craft laborers within retirement at a time when schools, plants, engineering firms and construction companies are abandoning apprenticeship programs.

Six craft labor occupations have been identified as being most at risk for experiencing critical labor shortages. These occupations include construction and building inspectors as well as general maintenance workers. All six have a workforce of 20 percent or more that is aged 55 or older, with a considerably smaller population of young, unprepared workers.

“These findings come at a key time, ” said Agile•1 Chief Operating Officer Peter Carvalho. “Engaging a total workforce solutions provider that offers both recruitment strategies and a strong supplier base can make the difference in a firm’s ability to secure the craft expertise needed to remain competitive over the next decade.”

Agile•1 analyzed occupational data for 75 craft labor jobs. Projections were developed using data and trend analysis, age demographics, and by evaluating employment changes to take into consideration labor demand.

As a total workforce solutions provider, Agile•1 has a network of more than 2,000 staffing suppliers that includes staffing agencies specializing in craft labor. This network, combined with expertise in delivering recruitment process solutions and managed services programs, enables Agile•1 to facilitate on-boarding of high-quality craft laborers to meet project demands when and where needed, at the appropriate market rates.
